Promoting the diversity of European cinema
The major event marking the beginning of the winter season, the Festival is an opportunity for our visitors to experience here in France an ambitious and original programme of more than 70 films and, above all, to mix the pleasure of snow riding sports and the joys of the cinema. After each showing, the audience can chat with film crews (directors, actors) to make this gathering a moment of true sharing and an unforgettable experience.
Every year… a featured country!
This year, the countries of the former Yugoslavia are in the spotlight. Every year one or more European countries are highlighted. Apart from the individual attention they receive, a particular choice will enable devoted cinema fans as well as neophytes to enter the world of Yugoslav directors.
Through this promotion of the diversity of European cinema and its talents, every film shown brings cultural values to the les Arcs European Film Festival: novelty, quality, originality and diversity. Amongst the works shown, ten films are in pre -première, 12 films are official entries for the Flèche de Cristal (crystal arrow), 7 films that have won awards in their countries of origin are being shown in Panorama, 12 films highlight the featured country and 8 films are suitable for an educational programme.
A festival of multiple facets…
Apart from its broad appeal, the les Arcs European Film Festival has a Special place for those who are making the films of tomorrow and for those who will be watching them; our children…
Some high spots… for the professionals!
This truly professional gathering is attended by nearly 900 guests from the world of film (directors, film crews, European film schools, producers, directors etc) who meet every year to bring new projects to light. Thus, the co-production Village, the “Work in progress “, the DIRE days and numerous lectures are all special moments promoting the spread of European cinema.
Sessions… for school children!
Because our cherished blonde heads need to be made aware of culture as soon as possible, screenings have been set up specially for the pupils of the schools in our valley. A mini debate will take place after the showings to encourage discussion of the images they have seen and the subject tackled.
Paradiski Gravity… the G-spot.
10 Years ago, on 20 December 2003, the Vanoise Express cable car opened its doors for the first time, connecting the resorts of les Arcs and La Plagne and offering skiers exceptional slopes of 425 km of ski runs. Paradiski has become the 2nd largest connected skiing area in the world! To celebrate these 10 successful years, Paradiski entrusted the redesign of the two cable car cabins to the famous fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. This temporary artistic creation will be exhibited in the great outdoors all winter. To mark the spirit of the occasion, Paradiski goes further and defies the laws of gravity with a grandiose event, on December 16, 2013: Paradiski Gravity.
Both original and spectacular, Paradiski Gravity is a novel performance to celebrate Paradiski’s 10th anniversary. Two of the best highliners worldwide (slackline at altitude), Julien Millot and Tancrède Melet will launch a challenge: to perform a crossing between the two cabins of the cable car (60 m) on a strap. First world premiere in highline at a height of 380 meters!
The Vanoise Express cable car offers a unique journey to the skiers who use it. Suspended 380 meters in the air, its two double floor cabins link in only 4 minutes the Peisey-Vallandry and Montchavin Les Coches stations, which are 1,824 meters apart. Crossing the valley, the cable car has two lanes which operate independently. The crossing, without any tower, offers a magical pause in an exceptional setting.
Yield to the temptation yourself and join the “Paradiski Gravity” contest. Evocative of the original sin, the apple symbolizes temptation; it also refers to Newton’s law of gravity and becomes the coveted object of the competition that Facebook launched for the occasion.
1- Let’s meet, as of November 29th, 2013 (5 pm), on the Paradiski Facebook page (Paradiski Gravity contest): https://www.facebook.com/paradiski
Drawn randomly, the winner will win a trip aboard the cable car to experience the Paradiski Gravity event live on 16th December 2013 (weather pending), in highliners’ company and enjoy a stay of one week at the Arcs from December 14th to 21st December 2013 for 2 persons and 2 skiing passes Les Arcs / Peisey-Vallandry.
12 – 19 janvier 2013 in Les Arcs, took place the freestyle backcountry event of the yeay : the Red Bull Linecatcher !
This freeski backcountry event comes back in the North Alps and gave us a great show between freeride and frestyle, on a great freeride spot in Arc 2000: “Cirque de fond Blanc”.
The idea : a virgin slope with cliffs and nice corridors, shaped kickers and the greatest freeskiers on the planet…
Feedback on the great show, taken by the frenchy Sam Favret:
